Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

Winter is Coming! It is time to winterize your home, but how exactly do you do it?

Use this list to get started.

• Have a heating professional check the heating system.

• Protect the home from frozen pipes.

• Run all gas-powered lawn equipment until the fuel is gone.

• Test the emergency generator.

• Have a certified chimney sweep inspect and clean the flues and check the fireplace damper.

• Remove birds’ nests from chimney flues and outdoor electrical fixtures.

• Make sure the caulking around doors and windows is adequate to reduce heating/cooling loss.

• Check the weather stripping around your doors and windows.

• Winterize your pressure washers, travel trailers, and other items that may have exposed plumbing by removing water from the lines with compressed air.

• Make sure that the caulking around the bathroom fixtures is adequate to prevent water from seeping into the sub-flooring.

• Clean the gutters and downspouts.
