Winter is Coming! It is time to winterize your home, but how exactly do you do it?
Use this list to get started.
Have a heating professional check the heating system.
Protect the home from frozen pipes.
Run all gas-powered lawn equipment until the fuel is gone.
Test the emergency generator.
Have a certified chimney sweep inspect and clean the flues and check the fireplace damper.
Remove birds’ nests from chimney flues and outdoor electrical fixtures.
Make sure the caulking around doors and windows is adequate to reduce heating/cooling loss.
Check the weather stripping around your doors and windows.
Winterize your pressure washers, travel trailers, and other items that may have exposed plumbing by removing water from the lines with compressed air.
Make sure that the caulking around the bathroom fixtures is adequate to prevent water from seeping into the sub-flooring.
Clean the gutters and downspouts.
